The First 90 Days After Your Offer — What Every Fresher Should Do
Getting the offer is half the battle. The next 90 days decide whether you get a full-time confirmation, a stretch project, or a lukewarm review. Here’s the plan that senior managers wish freshers followed.
The offer letter is the finish line for the interview — and the start line for everything else. We asked 12 tech managers at mid-to-large Indian companies what separated the freshers they wanted to keep from the ones they didn’t. Almost all their answers fell into the same three months.
Days 1–30 — Learn the room
- In your first 1:1, ask your manager exactly two questions: (a) what does “great performance” look like at 90 days? (b) who are 3 people I should shadow?
- Read the last 30 days of your team’s pull requests / tickets / campaigns. You learn the coding style, tone of voice, and inside jokes — all for free.
- Don’t ship a big change. Fix bugs, write docs, replicate an existing pattern.
Days 31–60 — Ship one small thing you own
By month two your manager wants to see a shippable outcome with your name on it. Not the biggest feature — the most complete one. Pick something modest, own it end to end, and demo it in the team sync.
Days 61–90 — Ask for the stretch
The best-perceived freshers are the ones who ask for one project outside their comfort zone in month three — not month six. This is the phase where managers decide who to invest in. Be visible, be humble, be specific.
